NSA Membership Information

NSA is first and foremost a friendly, low-key family-oriented sailing club.  There is a small, but unique clubhouse and a limited membership.  Our mission is to teach sailing and to promote the enjoyment of being on the waters of Pleasant Bay.  The weekend
Racing Program is open to all members.  Everyone, regardless of skill, is encouraged to participate, including young sailors from the Junior Sailing Program. In addition, we have a Summer Racing Membership, which welcomes other sailors on Pleasant Bay to our races.

Our informal social activities begin in June with Thursday night cookouts.  Families bring their own suppers and use clubhouse grills.   Our first meeting in early July concludes with the Commodore’s party in the clubhouse.  We also meet mid-season and at the end of August to award prizes and elect new officers.  A traditional square dance on a member’s lawn and a lobster cookout at the clubhouse rounds out the summer season.  In the winter, we have a few monthly “cook-ins”, each at the home of a different member.

Since NSA is a small association, members are expected to find a comfortable level of participation in the overall activities and work of running the clubhouse and events during the summer.  To keep expenses low and in the spirit of NSA, we have work parties in the spring and fall.  Jobs run from tending to the grounds or sweeping out the clubhouse, to launching boats in the spring or hauling them out in the fall.  There are occasional paint jobs and always the ubiquitous “dump run.”  In addition, the social activities are also cooperative ventures, which depend upon the willingness of volunteer members.

We realize that not every member has skills suitable for every task, but it is essential for every member to contribute for the well being of NSA and all of its members.
